Dark Tackle How to Clean and Filet a Northern Pike and debone the ribs Fishing Tip

Anthony Huber of Dark Tackle shows how to filet a northern pike. He shows how to debone the Filet of rib bones, the Y bones still remain. This is a quick easy method. The tail piece makes a great meal, as it will be nearly free of bones. Also, with the rib bones gone, only the Y-bones remain. Be cautious when consuming, as the small fish bones can get caught in your throat. We cooked this pike over the open fire. This can easily be done with a good cast iron pan. I prefer to use a dutch oven without the lid. What you do is you put about 1/4 inch film of grease in the pan, cut your filets into managable sizes, bread that in half corn meal half flour, cook until the fish is golden brown, and then season with half sugar half Lawerly's salt. This makes for a great tasting crispy meal. It is important to put the spices on afterwards because the spice tends to burn at a much lower temperature.
