Spanish Mackerel Shootout 2010 Mackay Gamefishing Club
|
Spanish Mackerel Shootout 2010 was a great success, pity about the weather, hosted once again by the Mackay Game Fishing Club. Reefari and crew went for a run out to the Shipping Channel and got some great reef fish, but unfortunately couldn't find any Spanish Mackerel for the weekend. Great video which gives a good run down of the weekend. We then hid in Refuge Bay, Scawfell Island for a bit of shelter Saturday night and tried again for a Spanish Mackerel Sunday morning for the run home with out any luck, but that's fishing. Week before we got 8 mackerel in 45 minutes, Oh well!!The much anticipated 2010 JG Marine & Mowers Spanish Mackerel Shoot-Out was contested over the weekend of 10th and 11th July 2010. The 15 - 20knot forecasts reaching 20-25 knots at times meant for trying times as 58 registered anglers did their best to land the best fish they could find. Credit must be given to the team on board "Somewhere", skippered by Dennis Breadsell, who managed to get Mick Rethus and Craig Breadsell hooked up to some monster spanish mackerel.. The first 2 fish they put on the scales were impressive:- Craig's first a commendable 17kg while Mick's first fish at 21.6 kg put him in front of the best fish weighed in on the Saturday that was 18.65kg from Jason Jenkins. However, when the second mackerel bag was opened up it was clear the competition was just between Craig and Mick. Craig's 2nd fish was weighed in at 30.50 kg and when Mick's 2nd fish was weighed at 30.00kg Craig had found himself the winner of the $1200 cash 1st prize in the 2010 JG Marine& Mowers Spanish Mackerel Shoot-out. The Spanish Mackerel mystery weight section saw Chris Ellis score a Reefari 1 Day Reef fishing trip with his 10.75kg Mackerel being the closest to the 13.5kg mystery mark. Reefari also sponsored the mystery weight for Reef fish. I was lucky enough to catch a quality 9kg Nannygai and 6 kilo Coral trout during the competition and was able to take out first prize for these reef fish categories. Gotta get lucky occasionally, don't know what the other guys were doing in the boat.A great big thanks must go to Ian Meads for putting the weekend together, alot of effort goes into this events so and make sure you get behind them. Thanks also to the rest of the volunteers from the Mackay Game fishing club who got in there and help out. Also the local sponsors, such as JG Marine and mowers, Nashy and Tackle world tackle stores, and other businesses, Thank You. Raptor II went well with the new 300 HP Suzuki's especially in some rough conditions, Great sea boat the Cougar Cat. Well worth considering a charter and some great fishing Mackay has to offer. Please subscribe with heaps more great videos and tips comingCheers GregAlso check out our website with heaps more info on the Spanish Mackerel shootout and great tips on catching spanish mackerel athttp://reefari.com/spanishmackere...
